Camping and Outdoor Programs -- Both Alameda Council and Out-of-Council
Scouting provides outdoor experiences unmatched by any other single youth movement or organization.
Scouting outdoor adventures are group experiences. Rather than taking individual youth off to a camp away from family and friends, Scouting believes that positive youth development occurs in group settings, where youth learn personal skills as well as teamwork under the guidance of caring volunteers from their own Scouting units.
Alameda Council volunteers and staff support BSA unit outdoor programs in multiple ways:
* Training unit leaders to lead unit outdoor experiences, because small groups of dens and patrols are where the best skill development and teamwork can take place.
* Providing special Alameda Council camping and aquatic programs that supplement what a unit can do on its own, with special activities beyond the scope and abilities of individual unit volunteers.
* Helping units participate in other BSA council and national programs for resident camping and high adventure experiences.
